John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
We have established that when Jesus ministered on Earth as a man, everything supernatural He did was done by the Power of the Holy Spirit. As a man, he could do nothing supernatural. Neither can we. However, by the Power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus performed countless Miracles and brought to the people powerful Teaching.
The people came to depend on Jesus, the man. Wherever He went, they followed because they wanted to sit under His Teaching and they also knew He would do Miraculous things. When He told them that He was going away, they were devastated because they wanted to hear Him Teach and they did not want the Miracles to stop. They had become totally dependent on Jesus, the man.
What Jesus was about to do would make everything much better and more Powerful than it was, but the people just couldn’t imagine it getting any better than having Jesus personally with them. He said, Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. (John 16:7)
By Him becoming the Final Sacrifice for their sins by being Crucified on the Cross of Calvary, they would no longer have to make daily sacrifices at the Temple and attempt to adhere to everything laid out in the Law. His Crucifixion would fulfill all that and put an end to their bondage to the Law, but that’s all they knew and they didn’t understand what He was talking about.
In addition to being set free from the Law, they themselves would possess the Power of the Holy Spirit in them! They would receive Spiritual Gifts and be able to perform Miracles! They would not have to be in the Presence of Jesus the man to see Miracles happen. That’s why Jesus said, It is to your advantage that I go away;
The people (including His Disciples) just couldn’t understand this. How could God give them the same Power Jesus had? People still don’t understand it today and that is why we see very little of the Power of the Holy Spirit in operation. Jesus said: Most assuredly I say to you, he who believes in Me, the Works that I do he will do also, and greater Works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. (John 14:12) All the Power of God is available to us if we will just believe in what Jesus said and did.
It all comes down to our Faith in Jesus Christ; His Words and His Crucifixion. Do you believe what Jesus said? If so, all the Power of God is in you to do great things. As the old song goes, Only believe, Only believe. All things are possible. Only believe.
Believe and watch God……….turn the tide
I believe, Doreen
