Colossians 1:18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.
Jesus is the head of the Church. Over time titles and positions have been given to people but we find this nowhere in the New Testament. Our study through the Book of Acts is being done to derive God’s Plan and Purpose for His Church.
While is it obvious that certain people do rise up to leadership positions in the Church, they are not to be the leader of the Church. This is how the Pope came to power and we all know how that has affected the Body of Christ as a whole; not good.
We find several terms in the New Testament that refer to church leadership. Among them are Pastor, Shepherd, Elder, Bishop, and Presbyter but they are all basically the same. They are all the Pastor of that fellowship of believers BUT the Church does not belong to them! The Church will always be the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ and as the Apostle Paul wrote to the Colossians, He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (Colossians 1:18)
Actually, Paul wrote far more than this one statement on the subject. Speaking of Jesus Paul wrote He is the Image of the invisible God, the Firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in Heaven and that are on Earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the Body, the Church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (Colossians 1:15-18)
Keep Jesus as the head of your Church. Do not allow any man to have dominion over you or your fellowship of believers. Yes, they may have leadership qualities but they still are just a man worthy of the Calling of God which is upon them but of no title. Only Jesus is worthy of any Title and He is worthy of them all! Hallelujah!
Jesus will……..….turn the tide
Only Jesus, Doreen
