Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the House of Israel know assuredly, that God has made that same Jesus, Whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
Peter concluded his inaugural message with these words, Therefore let all the House of Israel know assuredly, that God has made that same Jesus, Whom you have crucified both Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36)
Peter was on their turf but he gave it to them straight! He told them exactly Who Jesus was, Who Jesus is, and reminded them that they crucified Him. He addressed his words directly to the religious hierarchy and leadership. These were some of the most powerful people in the world but they had to know the Truth and God selected Peter as the one to tell them. These words could have gotten Peter killed on the spot, but the Holy Spirit protected him and the Truth penetrated 3,000 hearts that day!
Our study of the Book of Acts is to determine God’s Plan for His Church. Peter’s message on the Day of Pentecost presents the example of what a sermon should be. Unfortunately, few preachers today are following this example. Most refuse to say anything that might be deemed negative or offensive.
My friends, the Gospel of Christ is offensive to the sin-sick man. When taught and preached, it will bring conviction to the heart of the hearer. This is exactly what the Holy Spirit did through the words of Peter that day. He told them straight out that THEY CRUCIFIED THE MESSIAH! It was the House of Israel that rejected Christ and crucified Him and Peter told them all about it.
Peter’s concluding statement left no question about Who Jesus was. He said, that God has made that same Jesus, Whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ. The words Lord and Christ are both significant. The word Lord means Jesus was and is Jehovah. The word Christ means that He is Israel’s Messiah and the world’s Redeemer.
Every sermon preached today must tell the people that Jesus is both Lord and Christ. He is the Messiah; the Son of God Who died on the Cross of Calvary for the sins of the world. He is the Redeemer of all people. This is the Truth of the Gospel. This is what will set people free! This Truth must be preached. The Truth sets people free. Jesus said it! And you shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)
