2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
Yesterday we discussed the false doctrine of unconditional eternal security or better known as, once saved, always saved. This is an easy doctrine to preach and teach because people want to hear it. They want to believe that all they have to do to spend eternity in Heaven is walk down the aisle of a church and repeat a prayer with the preacher. While many have been truly saved in this manner and go on to live their lives for the Lord, millions have not.
Most people don’t go to church today to hear the Truth, they go to hear an encouraging word that does not convict them of their sin. As we have stated here so many times, sin is the problem with humanity. Jesus and the Cross is the answer to it. That’s the Truth of the Gospel but people don’t want to hear about their sin. They don’t want to hear that they should change. They want to go on sinning and believe that they are “saved and going to Heaven” because one time when they were seven years old they said a prayer in Vacation Bible School. This my friends is a travesty!
These people believe they are saved because preachers and teachers have told them they are. Since that time, when they do go to church, they look for a preacher who will tell them what they want to hear. They seek a denomination that believes what they want to believe whether or not it is the Truth of the Word of God. Churches like this are easy to find because their parking lots are filled with cars. The people go there by the thousands because they know they will hear what pleases them.
The Apostle Paul wrote to young Timothy on this very subject. I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His Kingdom: Preach the Word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the Truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. (2 Timothy 4:1-5)
Paul warns us that people will find lots of teachers and preachers who preach false doctrine. Preachers like this are everywhere. These people don’t read the Bible for themselves and seek understanding from the Holy Spirit. They read a Verse or two that tickles their itching ears and continue to sit under the teaching of false doctrine because that’s what they want to hear.
My friends, God does not tell us what we WANT to hear. He tells us what we NEED to hear. Since sin is our problem, His Word will convict us of our sin and direct us to the answer for that sin which is the understanding that Jesus atoned for that sin on the Cross of Calvary. Because of His Finished Work on the Cross, sin shall not have dominion over us. (Romans 6:14)
If you have sat under the false teaching of “once saved, always saved,” please read the Words of Jesus in Revelation 3:5 He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess in his name before My Father and before His Angels.
These Words, spoken by Jesus, clearly indicate that a name can be blotted out of the Book of Life. The way you live your life is very important. That’s why Jesus instructed us about our daily walk. If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. (Luke 9:23)
The Truth of the Word of God will…...….turn the tide……….in your life.
Daily walking with Him, Doreen
