Personal Gain

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

In the 16th Chapter of the Book of Acts, we read about a young woman who was possessed by the demon of divination. She was a slave and her masters were using her to make them money by fortune telling. Paul recognized the fact that she was demon-possessed and he cast the demon out of her in the Name of Jesus. Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the Name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour. (Acts 16: 18)

It’s obvious that the demon left her because she could no longer tell people their fortunes. This made her masters very upset because their money stream was cut off. This has been the way of the world for centuries. People at the top get rich by using poor, helpless people.

This is prevalent in the world today as we see drug kingpins sitting in penthouses rolling in money while they sell lethal drugs to kids on the streets. Alcohol, gambling, prostitution, and now human trafficking are rampant and millions of dollars are being made by a few at the top.

Unfortunately, this is not only happening in the world. There are many people who use the Church for selfish gains as well. Religious big-wigs sit at the top and use their peons to sell spiritual gifts, healing, and other fake miracles to the poor people who come seeking true Ministry of the Lord.

Paul wrote to Timothy on this subject and it is a word of warning for all of us today. If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself. (1 Timothy 6:3-5)

True Ministry is not to be offered as a means of personal gain. Jesus sold nothing. He ministered to all who were in need at no charge. He fed the hungry without selling them a meal ticket. He healed the sick and never sent them a bill. The poorest of the poor were treated exactly the same as the rich. No one was rejected or elevated because of their economic status.

God sees us all the same. We all stand in need of a Savior and Jesus Christ died on the Cross for all of us. If you are involved in a “church” that sells ministry……….RUN! Paul said, From such withdraw yourself. Jesus said, Freely you have received, freely give. (Matthew 10:8)

The Gospel of Christ will freely……….turn the tide……….in this evil world!

I have freely received!         Doreen
