Acts 16:26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s hands were loosed.

 

The earthquake that shook the prison that night was not an average earthquake. It was a Miracle of God brought about because of the praises of Paul and Silas. And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. (Acts 16:25) There are several aspects of the results of the earthquake that are not in alignment with normal earthquakes.

 

This earthquake shook the foundations of the prison but not the walls or anything above ground. When an earthquake breaks the foundation of a building, the whole thing collapses. As we discussed yesterday, the prison is a spiritual type, or representation, of the dark, evil world ruled by Satan.

 

When Paul and Silas sang praises to God while in this prison, God responded by shaking the whole place! God is far, far greater, and stronger than anything Satan has. Prayer and praise will shake the foundation of Satan’s world. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in this world. (1 John 4:4)

 

Paul and Silas had been praying, singing, and praising God all evening. The other prisoners heard them and probably thought they were crazy. However, when God responded to their prayers and praise, He demonstrated His Power to bring about real change!

 

Had God shaken the prison in a way that appeared like an ordinary earthquake, the prisoners would not have known it was God. They would have thought it was just another earthquake and dismissed it. God used this opportunity to display His Power to bring about real change in the darkest of dark places.

 

This is why God performs Miracles in the lives of lost people. He wants them to believe in Him. It is His desire that all people believe in Him and He uses Miracles, Signs, Wonders, Angels, and even earthquakes to do it! God will do whatever He wants to do to draw people to Himself.

 

The world calls these things coincidences but with God, there is no such thing. Everything God does is intentional, perfect and precisely on time. He could have caused the foundations of the prison to shake at any time, but He did it at that exact moment in time because He wanted all the prisoners to experience His Mighty Power, and they did! Hallelujah!

 

 

Prayer and praise will result in the Power of God to……..….turn the tide
