Pray, Trust, Obey

Philippians 1:6 He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

The scenario that plays out in the 10th Chapter of the Book of Acts is typical of how God works in the lives of people. As we have been discussing for the past week, the two major players are Cornelius and Peter, although others (including an Angel) have their parts to play as well.

God had orchestrated the whole thing and due to the obedience of the cast of players, it would all play out exactly as God intended. Situations like this are happening all over the world constantly. It’s amazing how God can work in the lives of billions of people simultaneously, but He can and He does!

All He asks of anyone is to hear His Voice, trust Him, and obey. That’s it! That’s all God will ever ask of us and yet, we insist on doing things our way. How arrogant it is to think that we know more than God, the Creator of the universe! This world belongs to Him! The world is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. (Psalms 24:1)

Do not be deceived, God has a Plan for your life and it is good. (Jeremiah 29:11) He has it all orchestrated. The players have already been cast. Each person has an important part to play. You have an important part to play.

God had a wonderful Plan for Cornelius that would ultimately affect the entire Gentile world. Although Cornelius was not a Jew, he had a heart for God. He prayed and sought after the Truth. He was a man of high position as a Centurion. He was wealthy and had many servants. He had it all in the world, but he didn’t let all that go to his head as so many others did. Rather, he spent time in prayer seeking the one, true God and because of this, God gave him a lead part to play.

We have come to the point when Cornelius’ servants met Peter at the house of Simon, the tanner. God had spoken to both Cornelius and Peter. Cornelius’ servants had a lot of respect for him so they did what he instructed them to do and went to Joppa to find this man named Peter.

The Holy Spirit of God had given Peter a Vision and a Message. He told Peter that there were three men downstairs at the door asking for him so Peter went to the door and sure enough, there they were just as the Spirit of God had said. Peter asked them what they wanted. And they said, Cornelius the Centurion, a just man, and one who fears God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an Holy Angel to send for you into his house, and to hear words of you. (Acts 10:22)

As we will see in the days to come, the whole thing played out perfectly because the key players sought God in prayer, trusted Him, and acted in obedience to His Voice. That’s all God asks of anyone. Pray, trust, and obey. That’s it!

God so wants to……….turn the tide……….in your life.
