2 Peter 2:4-9 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)—then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority.
America is rooted in the Word of God. There is no denying this. All one needs to do is read our Founding Documents and the Constitution of each and every state in the Union. The precepts of every single Document are based on Scripture.
In the early days of America, preachers took to their pulpits week after week and without fear, preached the Truth of the Gospel of Christ and the Doctrine and Principles of the Word of God. The people were saved, born again, and entrenched in the Word of God. It was their lifeline and their handbook for their daily lives. The Bible was read every day in homes and was the textbook in the schools across this great nation. American children grew up depending on the Word of God for answers to life’s questions.
Unfortunately, America today is far different than this. We have evolved into a people who care little about God and His Word. The Bible is believed by many to be a set of myths put together hundreds of years ago by some crazy people.
Americans today are far more interested in reading human psychology books written by man than the Word of God who created man. Broken and held captive by sin, they seek help from groups of people who are just as broken as they are. Self-help books are sold by the millions each year while the only Book that will really help sits on the shelf gathering dust or buried under a stack of old things in the bottom of grandma’s cedar chest.
The preachers in America today are not preaching the Truth of the Word of God in regard to living for God on a daily basis. They may preach the Word for Salvation, but nothing more. I had a preacher tell me last week that the ONLY message that needed to be preached was the Gospel of Christ for Salvation. If that is true, why is 95% (or more) of the Bible devoted to instructing us in how to live our lives pleasing to God?
The pulpits across America today are filled with people who do not have the courage to preach the whole Truth of the Word of God. They are weak and because of their weakness, their congregation is made up of weak people who will not stand in courage either.
The preachers have always led America and unfortunately, they still do. The face of the Church today is one of apathy and tolerance. This is not the Face of God or found in the Word of God. Nowhere does God tell us to be weak in our faith, silent, that the sin in our lives doesn’t matter, that all world religions are the same and all lead to Heaven, that homosexuality is acceptable, or that murdering millions of babies is okay because they are not wanted!
The Word of God says, I am the Lord God Almighty and I change not. God does not change. America has changed a lot; for the worse. We are now seeing what happens when we put down the WHOLE Word of God and pick up the word of man. We must turn back to God. We must! And it must begin just as it started: In the pulpits across this great nation.
Rise up, preachers! Rise up take up the Sword and preach the Truth; the WHOLE TRUTH! This is the purpose for which you were gifted and called to this great position.
Have no doubt; God will……..turn the tide
Without a doubt, Doreen
