Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Because of the Miracle in the Philippi jail, a church was planted there. The believers were allowed to use the house of Lydia, so they had a home base. However, most of the Preaching and Teaching was done in the streets. The jailer and his whole household had come to Salvation because of the incident as did most, if not all, of the prisoners at that time. We don’t know how many others gave their hearts to Christ, but we do know that the Church in Philippi quickly grew in number.
After their release from prison, Paul and Silas returned to the home of Lydia to say their goodbyes. Their work in Philippi was finished. And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: And when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed. (Acts 16:40) The question is, who comforted who? Although they had been severely beaten, Paul and Silas comforted the believers and probably explained to them that God had a Plan to see the people of their city Saved and born again and this was His way of accomplishing it.
Paul and Silas knew that their work for the Lord was not about them. Rather, it was all about sharing the Gospel of Christ to build the Kingdom of God. They had devoted their entire lives to this and no matter what happened to them, they would continue the Work the Lord had placed in front of them.
Paul suffered greatly throughout his life. He was devoted to the Work the Lord had placed in front of him and no matter what happened, he never quit. Ministry is not a profession where we work hard for thirty or forty years and then retire. There is no retirement for the true Minister of the Gospel of Christ.
Actually, I think it’s just the opposite. The older we get and the more years we have served in ministry, the more wisdom we have and the more we can share with others. Our testimonies grow every day as we watch the Lord work in the lives of people. We see Miracles all around us and with every passing year, we grow stronger in our faith and are more able to share the Love of Christ with other people.
You may be tired. You may have worked hard in your ministry. Perhaps you have been slandered and beaten down by other believers and non-believers alike. None of that matters. God knows you and He knows the truth. He is with you and the Holy Spirit will guide you. As long as you are alive, there is work for you to do.
We must keep on, keeping on. Do not be discouraged or lose heart. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. (Galatians 6:9) Press on with everything you have. Never quit! I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:14)
Press on. God will use you to………..turn the tide……..in this world.
Pressing on! Doreen
