Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

One of the most beautiful Names/Titles given to Jesus in the Word of God is PRINCE OF PEACE. The great Prophet Isaiah spoke this Name when he Prophesied For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)

Jesus Christ was sent by the Father to bring Peace to this lost and dying world. In English, we know peace to mean the absence of war but to gain the full understanding of this Name/Title given to Jesus, we must delve into both the Hebrew and Greek words for peace.

The Hebrew word is shalom which often refers to a state of calmness and tranquility; the absence of fear, hatred, worry, and concern. Shalom is a common greeting among Jewish people which actually means “Peace be unto you.”

The Greek word for peace is eirene which takes on a completely different meaning. It means unity and accord. The Apostle Paul used the word eirene to describe the Church of the New Covenant. The early Church experienced this sort of Peace as they came together in unity and were in one accord. When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. (Acts 2:1) So continuing daily with one accord in the Temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the Church daily those who were being saved. (Acts 2:46-47) Great Miracles occurred when the Church was in unity and one accord. Through the hands of the Apostles many Signs and Wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch. (Acts 5:12)

There is one more definition of the Greek word eirene. It is “spiritual harmony brought about by an individual’s restoration with God.” In this definition, we find the deep, true, spiritual meaning! This is what Jesus brought to the entire world! The Lord spoke through Isaiah and said For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6) Yes, Jesus came into this world to bring about Peace in every sense of the word!

In the 17th Chapter of the Gospel of John, Jesus prayed for the Church. He prayed for eirene; unity; accord, harmony; and peace. This could only be accomplished by His Sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary. Sin had to be Atoned for in order for there to be Peace. In His Finished Work on the Cross, Jesus made it possible for all of us to have a restored relationship with God the Father which will result in eirene; Peace.

The Apostle Paul spoke to this Peace when he wrote to the Philippians. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the Peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

Jesus is the PRINCE OF PEACE in every sense of the word! Hallelujah!

The PRINCE OF PEACE will ……….turn the tide……….in your life and this world!
