Proper Stewardship

Matthew 25:29 For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.

In the 25th Chapter of Matthew, we read the Parable of the Talents. Jesus paints a clear picture in this parable that should be taken to heart by every believer. In the Parable we see that the master gave three of his servants talents to keep while he was away on a long trip.

The Word tells us that he gave each of them talents according to their ability. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; (Matthew 25:15) God does not give us more than we can handle BUT He does expect us to be good stewards of what He does give us and make good investments to grow His Kingdom. How do we invest a talent to grow the Kingdom?

The answer to this question is easy to understand but not so easy to put into practice in our daily lives. To begin with, we must identify a talent. What is a talent? We understand a talent as an ability to do something like the talent to sing, draw, play a musical instrument, etc. However, in the Parable, the talents given to the servants were money.

Therefore, a talent can be anything given to us by God which, is basically is everything. The air we breathe has been given to us by God. Our ability to talk, walk, and move about is provided to us by God. Without Him, we are nothing. People will argue that the money they have is theirs and has nothing to do with God because they worked hard to earn that money. However, they are neglecting to realize that it is God who gave them the ability to be able to work and earn money so, actually, absolutely everything belongs to Him. We own nothing.

Since we own nothing, that means everything in our possession has been given to us for safekeeping just like the servants in the Parable. The question is, what are we doing with what we have been given? Everything God has is for the benefit of His Kingdom. If we are servants of the Most High God, everything we have should be for the benefit of the Kingdom as well.

This brings us right back to the same question: What are we doing with what the Lord has entrusted to us? He is coming back. For the Lord Himself will descend from Heaven with a shout, with the Voice of an Archangel, and with the Trumpet of God. (1 Thessalonians 4:16) When the Lord returns and asks you what you have done with what you have been given, how will you answer? What have you done with what you have been given? How has it impacted the Kingdom of God? In the end, that is all that will matter.

God cares nothing about the things of this world because it is all the kingdom of the enemy. Consider the words of the master to the servant who buried his talent. But his lord answered and said to him, “You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 25:26-30)

I will leave you with two questions: How are you using what you have been given to benefit the Kingdom of God? What will the Lord say to you when He returns?

Proper stewardship will…..…….turn the tide………..in your life.

Lord, help me to be a better steward,         Doreen
