Prophet Jesus

Matthew 21:11 So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the Prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”

Our study of the many Names/Titles given to Jesus in the Word of God has brought us to one of the most powerful Titles given to anyone. Jesus was given the Title of PROPHET and was undoubtedly the greatest Prophet to ever live!

In Old Testament times, God spoke to the people through His Prophets. Unlike believers today, the Holy Spirit did not dwell in the people of God but periodically visited them and imparted messages to certain people. They in turn spoke the message to the people. Prophets were called “men of God” because they occasionally brought forth the Words of God. The definition of the word prophet is a person regarded as an inspired teacher or proclaimer of the Will of God.

The English word Prophet comes from the Greek word prophetes, which means “one who speaks forth” or “advocate.” Prophets are also called “seers” because of their spiritual insight or their ability to “see” the future.

Prior to Jesus, there were other Prophets including Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, and Haggai. Their Prophesies were all Inspired by the Holy Spirit and we read their Words in the Old Testament of the Bible.

However, the greatest PROPHET to ever live is Jesus of Nazareth. The Apostle Paul recognized Jesus in this capacity. In his letter to the Ephesians, he wrote Now therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the Chief Cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a Holy Temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. (Ephesians 2:19-22)

We see by this Scripture that the Church (the household of God) is built on the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets (the Words of God) and that Jesus was the greatest Apostle and Prophet making Him the Cornerstone of the entire Foundation upon which the Church is built.

As born-again believers in Christ, we are each the Temple of God. Do you not know that you are the Temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16) This means that the Holy Spirit dwells inside us; all of us! We have continual access to the Words and Will of God when we allow ourselves to be led by the Spirit of God. This is the Will of God for His Church.

Jesus Prophesied this when He said, If you love Me, keep My Commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. (John 14:15-17)

Prophesies are the Word of God spoken by people. Every Word Jesus spoke was therefore a Prophecy either for that present time or the future. Jesus never spoke a Word the Father did not give Him. He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, “Show us the father”? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The Words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the Works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves. (John 14:9-11)

People today misuse the title Prophet every day and there are many false prophets proclaiming such today. However, we can be assured that Jesus Christ of Nazareth was indeed the greatest PROPHET ever!

God sent the PROPHET Jesus to…..…….turn the tide……….in this world and He did!

To Him be all Glory, Honor, and Praise forever and ever!         Doreen
