Acts 20:28-31 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn every one night and day with tears.
As Paul prepared to leave Ephesus, he called the elders of the church together to talk with them. He told them to oversee the flock in the days ahead. Paul knew the persecution would come and people would try to destroy the Church. He also knew they would not stop at anything. He warned them that some of these persecutors would rise up from within the Church itself, speak perverse things, and entice the people to follow them away from the Truth.
These overseers had been called by the Holy Spirit for this cause. They were gifted and anointed for this purpose. This was the plan of God for them at this time in their lives. They were to shepherd the flock always watching for the wolves that sought to destroy them all. Paul told them to be careful and always on guard against the enemy who comes only to kill, steal and destroy the Church of God.
There are people today who do not believe we should guard the Church against the enemy. These people believe we should just welcome the enemy to come in and do whatever they want. All we should do is give them food, water, and housing and share the Gospel of Christ with them in hopes they will see the Truth and accept it.
We are in the midst of a tremendous spiritual battle and we must heed the words of Paul to the Church at Ephesus. Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn every one night and day with tears.
The Body of Christ is described many times in the Word of God as a flock of sheep. Some of the sheep could care less about what is going on around them as long as they have food, water, and a roof over their head, they are good. You may agree with this and that’s okay. However, if you feel the urgency to stand for the Body of Christ and protect the sheep (as I do) you have been called to do so, at such a time as this.
Those of us who have the courage to answer this Call on our lives are joining together to oversee the flock and protect it. The wolves are here. We, the overseers, must take heed and stand strong as we protect the flock.
The Holy Word of God will……..turn the tide
Standing strong! Doreen
