Ready To Go

Acts 2:11 we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful Works of God. So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, Whatever could this mean?

The year was 33 A.D. The place was the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The occasion was the Day of Pentecost. Thousands of devout Jews were gathered from all over the Roman Empire in celebration of the Feast. What a sight that must have been!

Among the crowd of Jews was a small group (about 120 people) of folks who believed in Jesus Christ. They were there because Jesus had told them to go there and wait for the Promise of the Father, which was the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised to Baptize them all in the Holy Spirit who would be their Helper, Teacher, Guide, and Counselor now that He had Ascended to be with the Father. The Holy Spirit would also be the Power of God in them to perform great and powerful Miracles as Jesus had done when He ministered on earth.

I’m sure the devout Jews were ignoring the group of believers and going about with their Feast celebration when it happened! As we have been discussing for the past few days, all of a sudden there came a rushing mighty wind and the group of 120 cast-off believers ALL began speaking in different languages. God so wanted the Jews to believe in Jesus that He allowed them to understand what the believers were saying. They each heard them in their own language! This caused the Jews to take notice of them.

Luke recorded their response: And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful Works of God. So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?” Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.” (Acts 2:6-13)

Some of those who professed to know God (the devout Jews) stood in wonder and amazement. The majority of them were completely perplexed by what they were watching and hearing while others mocked them and called them a bunch of drunkards.

God was calling them all to faith in Christ by a mighty Miracle. Many were amazed and perplexed while others were mockers. This is exactly what we have found throughout history and still find today. People can witness the greatest of Miracles and still not believe. They will attribute it to man, mother nature, or coincidence but seldom, if ever, will they come to faith in Jesus Christ. What a pity.

When the Trump of God sounds and every truly born-again Christian is taken up in the Rapture of the Church, perhaps then, they will believe. The Bible tells us that a great multitude will be saved at that time but it’s going to be a horrible time to be alive on earth.

I encourage you to take a little time and read the 7th Chapter of Revelation. Get right with Jesus. Time is short. You don’t want to be left behind.

God will soon……….turn the tide……..in this world again.
