Rest In Hope

Acts 2:26 Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; moreover my flesh also will rest in Hope.

In Peter’s inaugural Message on the Day of Pentecost, he quoted both the Prophet Joel and David. Many of David’s Prophecies came in the form of songs and this one is found in Psalm 16. As is the case with so many Prophecies, this one pertains to the author, David, Jesus, and every born-again believer.

This Psalm has to do with the Benefits of one totally surrendering and committing their life to God. In David’s case, he had to learn this the hard way after making some major mistakes that caused much pain for himself, his family, and his people. And so it is with most of us.

We make poor choices that lead to sin and shame in our lives but when we come to the place of Repentance and turn from that sin, we can then receive the Grace and Mercy of God through the shed Blood of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. In that place of Forgiveness we rejoice and find rest and hope. We know that God will never leave us nor forsake us and He will not condemn us to Hell.

Jesus found rest in the Promises of His Father as well. He knew He would have to suffer and die on the Cross and He knew He would have to go down into Paradise and set the captives free, but He also knew His Father would not leave Him there but raise Him up! In that Promise, Jesus found rest in hope.

The following are the three Verses of Psalm 16 that Peter quoted in his first sermon. As you read this, remember that he was speaking to a huge crowd of unbelieving Jews. However, they were well aware of the Words of the Prophets and with these Words, 3,000 of them came to faith in Jesus!

Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:9-11)

Do you see how this pertains to David, Jesus, and every born-again believer? Every Prophecy is like this! God’s Word always brings edification and rest in hope. David knew it. Jesus knew it and I pray you know it now as well and you too can rest in Hope. Hallelujah!

The Word of God will……….turn the tide……….in this world.
