Genesis 13:3-4 And he (Abram) went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai; Unto the place of the Altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the Name of the Lord.
Abram was spiritually broken and miserable. To continue on he had to receive the forgiveness and redemption of God. He knew he had to return to the mountaintop where his tent had been at the beginning. He went back to the place where he knew God was; the Altar of Sacrifice. There, at the Altar, which he had made at the first, he called on the Name of the Lord.
At that place, having made the sacrifice for his sins, he received what he so desperately needed, the Redemption of God. His sins were forgiven. His soul was restored and he could go on with his life of worship. None of this was available to him in Egypt. He had to pick up his tent and return to the Altar on the mountaintop.
This is a picture of the wandering believer who finally, out of shear desperation, picks up what’s left of their tent, and returns to the Cross of Christ where they were first redeemed. The Cross was the Altar upon which the Ultimate and Final Sacrifice of the Perfect Lamb was made.
It was Abram’s faith and belief in the Sacrificial Process that brought him the Redemption he so desperately needed. Faith in the Sacrifice is still what brings Redemption to people. No other faith will do. All people have faith, but faith in anything else will not result in Forgiveness, Redemption, or any Blessing of God.
We must return to the Cross and come face to face with the Sacrifice God made on our behalf and place our faith solely in Him; Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Lamb of God, the Perfect Sacrifice for the sins of the world. He is our ONLY Hope.
It’s time to pick up our tent and return to that mountaintop of Sacrifice; the Cross of Christ, where we first found Salvation and Forgiveness.
As the old song goes, At the Cross, at the Cross where I first saw the Light, and the burden of my heart rolled away. It was there by faith I received my sight, and now I am happy all the day!
When God’s people return to The Cross, He will……..turn the tide
At The Cross, Doreen
