Sacrificial Lamb

John 1:29 Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

The goal in the life of every born-again believer should be to live their life pleasing to God. This has always been in the minds of God’s people and God has made a way for this to happen. In Old Testament times as well as New Testament times, the way has always been through God’s Sacrificial System.

In Old Testament times, the people were required to bring a sacrificial animal to the Tabernacle or Temple to be sacrificed on the Altar for their sins. This was done twice a day, every day. When we read about this we can see that every animal offered as a sacrifice is a type or picture of Jesus who would become the final Sacrifice. John introduced Jesus as such. Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. (John 1:29)

The Old Covenant Sacrificial System was the people’s way of addressing sin. It had to be done because they were all sinners and they wanted to be made Righteous in the eyes of God who instituted this System of forgiveness. God’s people believed in the Sacrificial System. They knew God had put this in place for them and they had faith that if they were obedient, their sins would be covered.

The blood of animals could only cover the sins of the people. It was not pure enough to take their sins away. Only the Blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary could do that. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. (Hebrews 10:4)

Until Jesus went to the Cross and became the final Sin Sacrifice, the Old Covenant Sacrificial System had to remain in effect or the people could not be forgiven by God. But on that Day, that glorious Day when Christ was Crucified on the Cross of Calvary, everything changed! The final Blood Sacrifice for all people had been made! Hallelujah!

There would be no need for any more little lambs and other animals to be butchered on the Altar at the Temple. Jesus, the Lamb of God, had completed the Sacrificial Work for all time. There would never be another Sacrifice required by God.

However, like in the Old Covenant, people are required to believe in the Sacrificial Work of Jesus. Only those who believe in His Finished Work on the Cross will be Redeemed by God. Our Salvation is no longer based on what we do because Jesus has already done it all for us. Our Salvation is based on what we believe; where we place our faith.

What do you really believe? Do you believe in Jesus? Do you believe He went to the Cross of Calvary and gave His Life for your sins? Do you believe He was the Final Sacrificial Lamb of God? Is He your Savior and the Lord of your life? These are the most important questions you will ever be asked to answer.

Faith in Christ Crucified will……….turn the tide……….in this world.
