Seek Peace

Isaiah 9:6 And His Name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

As the 9th Chapter of Acts comes to a close, the focus turns from Paul to Peter. The Apostles had escorted Paul out of town and instructed him to go home to Tarsus. Luke, the author of the Book of Acts, related that the Church could finally rest a little. Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had rest and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied. (Acts 9:31)

To understand the full meaning of this Verse, we must dig a little deeper and look at a few of the Greek words and their meaning. When Luke refers to the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, he is speaking of the people who were believers and at that time, consisted of Jews who believed in Jesus as Messiah and were converted and born again. At this time, the Church had not yet begun to reach out to Gentiles but that was about to change!

Finally, the Church (the believing Saints) could rest a little. had rest and were edified. Prior to this, there had been great turmoil in the Church due to persecution by the Jews and the presence of Paul and all his history. The Greek word for edified is oikodomeo. It means to be a house builder; to construct. Things had calmed down enough that the Lord could finally get back to building His House; His Church.

A Church in a state of turmoil cannot grow because there is no Peace in the house. Since the days of the Early Church, people have always sought true Peace. The only true source of Peace is Jesus Christ. He is the Prince of Peace. The great Prophet Isaiah wrote about Him and told of His Name. And His Name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)

This concept goes beyond a congregation of believers. Let us be reminded that we are the Church. Our household is the Church. Our workplace is the Church. Wherever we are we take the Church to that place and the Church will grow in number IF we have the Peace of God.

Turmoil and unrest disturb what God wants to do in His Church. Therefore, let us seek the Peace of God in our personal lives and everywhere we go. As stated above, Jesus is the ONLY source of Peace. He went to the Cross of Calvary so that we may have Peace. Seek Peace in your life and share that Peace with those you come in contact with and the Church will be edified; built; constructed. Hallelujah!

The Prince of Peace will……….turn the tide……….in this world.

May the Peace of God be with you,         Doreen
