Silver And Gold

Matthew 6:33 Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.

When Peter and John set out for the Temple that day and passed by the cripple sitting at the gate named Beautiful begging for alms, Peter said, Silver and gold have I none. The crippled man had no way to support himself, so every day he sat at the Temple and begged for money.

Peter knew the man wanted money. He needed money but he would soon learn that although God will supply our financial needs so we can meet our physical requirements, money and material goods should never be the measure of success.

Many preachers today are preaching what we know as the Prosperity Gospel. While God can and will supply all our needs, subscribing to such teaching can be very dangerous. In my opinion, this is heresy. Jesus told us what to seek after and it wasn’t money and material things. He said, Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)

Peter told the crippled beggar, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I to you: (Acts 3:3) Peter knew what the crippled man wanted and he also knew what he NEEDED! All the silver and gold in the world would not restore his legs and enable him to walk. But, what Peter had for him would change his life forever!

Then Peter spoke the greatest words ever to him. He said, In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. (Acts 3:4) The Holy Spirit caused Peter to remember what Jesus had told him. In My Name….. (Mark 16:17)

Peter ministered to the crippled man exactly as Jesus would have if He had been there. He simply spoke the Name of Jesus which unleashed the Power of God to heal the man. THIS should still be the ministry of the Church today. Let us not seek after silver and gold. Let us not pray for riches so we can keep up with the ministry down the street. But let us seek the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness. Let us be obedient to the Words of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

God wants us to have it all but we must get our priorities straight. God, His Kingdom, and His Righteousness MUST come first and foremost in our minds and hearts. This is the Command of Jesus to us. Let us be obedient to His Words.

When we are, He will…...….turn the tide……….in our lives.

Jesus first,         Doreen
