Sound Doctrine

2 Timothy 4:3-5 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the Truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an Evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Yesterday, we emphasized the fact that God’s Pattern for the Church is for sound doctrine to be preached from the pulpit and taught to the people. Sound doctrine is the Truth of the Gospel. Sound doctrine calls sins what it is and explains how the Blood of Jesus takes away that sin. Sound doctrine will always take us right back to the Cross of Christ where He paid the ultimate price on our behalf.

When sound doctrine is taught and preached, it will bring people to a state of repentance where they can be saved, born again, healed, and delivered from all bondage and every burden that weighs them down. Sound doctrine is freeing!

Peter preached sound doctrine and the Church grew in numbers daily. (Acts 2:47) The Apostle Paul also preached sound doctrine and people came in great numbers to hear the Truth of the Gospel of Christ. He planted hundreds of churches throughout the region and it was all due to his preaching of sound doctrine.

The leaders of churches today want to see their church grow but in most cases, they don’t want to preach sound doctrine. They want to attract people to their beautiful facilities, plan social events, and preach flowery messages that never speak of the shed Blood of Jesus or the evils of sin. Church today is all about the number of people and the number of dollars that come into their coffers so the church staff can draw bigger salaries, drive better cars, and have a better office than the preacher down the street.

My friends, none of this is God’s Pattern for His Church and it will not result in people being Saved, Healed, or Delivered. None of this will bring real change to people. The Apostle Paul hit the nail on the head when he wrote, For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the Truth, and be turned aside to fables. (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

Sound Doctrine will…...….turn the tide
