Spirit Being

1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good character.

Yesterday, we entered into a discussion about our spirit beings. God created mankind in three parts: body, soul, and spirit. Our spirit being is the heart of who we truly are. It is the innermost part of us where our character is developed.

If we think of our spirit being as a vessel or container, we find that it has capacity. Like any container, it can only hold a certain amount. Our spirit being contains all that is spiritual about us and these spiritual attributes (both good and evil) are manifested through our bodies. Jesus spoke about this. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks. (Luke 6:45)

Perhaps you have heard it said, “He is evil to the core.” or “She is good through and through.” These are modern-day examples of this same concept. The fact is, sin corrupts our character because it brings evil into our spirit being. The more we sin, the more our spirit being is filled with evil spirits which corrupts our character.

Character is defined as the features and attributes that make up and distinguish an individual. Actually, character is the manifestation of our spirit being. Try as we may, our spirit being is at the heart or center of who we really are, and given enough time, it will reveal itself. This is why it is so important to guard your spirit being. It is the most important part of us and it will live forever either in Heaven or in Hell depending on our belief and faith in Jesus Christ. I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by Me. (John 14:6)

With all that said, please heed the words of Paul to the Corinthians. Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good character. (1 Corinthians 15:33) The people you associate with will affect your spirit being.

The writer of Hebrews also wrote on this subject. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:24-25)

As born-again believers in Christ Jesus, we want to live our lives pleasing to God. We want to do good and not evil. We want to exhibit the Fruit of the Spirit in our daily lives. But the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23) We all want these spiritual attributes to be the manifestation of our spirit being but for the Fruit of the Spirit to be prevalent in our lives, they have to be implanted in our spirit being which is at the heart of who we really are, not what we pretend to be when people are watching.

Faith in Christ Crucified is the only way to have a heart filled with the Fruit of the Spirit. Sin corrupts our spirit being and causes us to be exactly the opposite of all listed above. Therefore, if we want to live our lives pleasing to God, we must make room in our spirit being for the Holy Spirit of God to dwell and make the needed changes to our spirit being. That’s His Job and He is very good at it when we truly want our spirit being to be changed. Seek and you shall find. (Matthew 7:7)

Turn your eyes upon Jesus. He will………..turn the tide……….in your spirit being!

Thank you Jesus!         Doreen
