Spiritual Eyes

Mark 4:11-12 And He said to them, To you it has been given to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables, so that “Seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand; lest they should turn and their sins be forgiven them.”

Saul was a totally new man in every sense of the word. The once persecutor and executor of believers was now one of them and continually grew in his knowledge and faith every day. Because he was baptized with the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, which he knew very well, was taking on a whole new meaning and Saul was now seeing things through spiritual eyes. But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ. (Acts 9:22)

This is a familiar happening with all believers. Even though we have read a Passage of Scripture over and over again, there will come a time when we read it one more time and it will take on a whole different meaning. This is what happened to Saul. He knew the Scriptures better than any man alive at that time, and yet now, in every place he looked in the Scriptures, he saw Christ.

As we study the Old Testament Books and Prophecies, we see Jesus everywhere. That’s because we are reading it with New Testament eyes. Every lamb that was sacrificed is a picture of Jesus, the Lamb of God. Every Altar where sacrifices were made is a picture of the Cross, the Altar on which the final Sacrifice was made for the sins of the world.

We could go on and on about this, but the point is that everything in the Old Testament points to Jesus Who is revealed to us in the New Testament. The entire Bible is the Story of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Who came to take away the sins of the world.

Many Sunday School teachers share the Old Testament stories with the children they teach but few help the children to see the stories through New Testament eyes. Perhaps this is because they don’t see the Gospel of Christ in the Old Testament stories themselves.

If you don’t see the Gospel of Christ when you read the Old Testament, pray for God to open your spiritual eyes so you will. He will grant you this request and the Holy Spirit will begin to reveal to you things you have never seen before!

When the Disciples asked Jesus to explain about Parables, He said, To you it has been given to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables, so that “Seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand; lest they should turn and their sins be forgiven them.” (Mark 4:11-12)

Seeing with spiritual eyes will……….turn the tide………..in your life.

Thank you Lord for eyes to see,         Doreen
