Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
The shepherds that received the Message of the Birth of Jesus from the Angel were Levitical Shepherds. These men raised sheep for the purpose of being sacrificed. Therefore, these lambs had to be perfect and without blemish.
The Shepherds took very good care of these lambs and watched over them closely so they would not get hurt or acquire a spot or blemish. One of the ways they did this was to wrap the little lambs up in cloth. The material they used for this was a special cloth called “swaddling cloth.”
When Baby Jesus was born, Mary wrapped Him in swaddling cloths. He was born to be the Lamb of God and Mary knew it. He was Perfect in every way and totally without spot or blemish. He would never commit a single sin and go on to be the Final Sacrifice for the sins of all the world.
When the Shepherds heard the Angel say, For there is born to you this day in the City of David a Savior, Who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger. (Luke 2:11-12), they knew this child was the Messiah of whom they had been taught their entire lives.
Perhaps “swaddling cloth” was the keyword that caused them to go see for themselves. Perhaps the “swaddling cloth” that Mary had Baby Jesus wrapped in is what caused them to believe. No one knows for sure, but we do know that they believed. Do you believe?
On that night 2,000 years ago a child was born Who was Christ the Lord. He was God’s Perfect Lamb, wrapped in swaddling cloths and placed in a manger in the little town of Bethlehem which is known as the “City of Bread.” Jesus is the Bread of Life. He said, I am the Bread of Life. (John 6:48)
He was born to……….turn the tide……....in the whole world.
Merry Christmas, Doreen
