Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
God created human beings in His Image. Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;” (Genesis 1:26) We have determined the Godhead to be a Three-part entity: The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, also known as The Trinity.
Human beings are also three-part beings: Spirit, Soul and Body. Now may the God of Peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
Throughout the Word of God humans are described as trees. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, (Jeremiah 17:8) He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, (Psalm 1:3) Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. (Matthew 7:17)
It is the root system of a tree that determine its strength and the quality of its fruit. The roots are the nutrition source of the tree. While they cannot be seen above the ground, without them the tree would simply fall over and die. Most trees have as much (or more) root system underground than they have tree above ground. Everything underground fuels all that is above ground.
God has created us with a root system. It is our spirit being. This part of us is the fuel for what everyone else sees on the outside; our body. People who have a damaged root system (broken spirit) will reflect this damage and brokenness in their behavior and the “fruit” they produce.
Yesterday we initiated a discussion on the damage a root of bitterness will cause in people. Bitterness will contaminate the good roots of a person’s spirit and cause them to rot. We cannot allow the evil spirit of bitterness to grow and fester in our spirit because sooner or later it will overtake our entire root system.
This brings us right back to our Scripture from yesterday: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the Grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled. (Hebrews 12:15) Bitterness is the work of the enemy in our lives. It is hidden deep down in our spirit and eventually it will destroy us. Jesus said, The thief comes but to kill, steal and destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly. (John 10:10) Every root in our spirits is either good or evil. It either comes from the devil and seeks to kill, steal and destroy us, or it comes from our faith in the Finished Work of Jesus on the Cross and will add to our abundant life He died for us to have.
Obviously, bitterness is from the devil because it does not result in abundant life. Therefore, we need to cut off the root of bitterness in our spirit but how do we accomplish this? This is done by understanding and believing that bitterness was included in all that was nailed to the Cross with Jesus and He destroyed the power of it in our lives. And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the Cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
If you believe that Jesus took bitterness to the Cross with Him and destroyed its power over all who believe in Him, then simply place your faith in His Finished Work on the Cross and declare that demonic spirit of bitterness cut off from your root system. That faith will give you authority over that evil spirit and you can cut it off and cast it out from yourself. Jesus said: Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Take authority over bitterness and watch God……….turn the tide……..in your life.
