Take His Hand

Philippians 1:6 being confident of the very thing, that He who has began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Saul was on his way to Damascus to arrest and kill some more Christians when the Power of God came upon him like a great Light and knocked him to the ground. There, Saul had an encounter with Jesus that changed his life forever.

Saul was the most educated man on earth at that time and he was extremely religious. Everything he did was in defense of the Jewish Religion and the Law. He honestly believed he was serving God to the best of his ability and his zeal for his work was beyond that of any man.

However, on that fateful day, he learned that he had been living a lie. God had to literally knock him down to the ground to get his attention and speak the truth to him. As he lay on the ground trembling, terrified, astonished, and stupefied, the Lord Jesus spoke to him and for once, Saul listened.

After Jesus identified Himself, Saul asked Him what He wanted him to do. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what will you have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told you what you must do. (Acts 9:6) At this point Saul totally surrendered to Jesus Christ, the One he had persecuted for so long. He was ready to do whatever Jesus told him to do.

It’s a shame that God has to knock us down to get our attention, but He will do what He has to do so that His Plan for our lives will play out. This is exactly what happened to me. Although I was not persecuting Jesus, I was not in a position to do what He had for me to do. I was living in total submission to my husband who was a strong man with definite plans for our future. Our plans were good and we were faithful to serve in Church, but this was not God’s Plan for my life.

God moved me from California to Oklahoma and then took my husband out of the picture so He could complete the work He had for me to do. It wasn’t easy to find my husband crushed under the heavy weight of a cattle chute. In that instant, God knocked me down to the ground and I found myself without my lifelong teammate. For thirty years Jack and I had done everything together and we accomplished a lot. Now, just when we thought our retirement dreams were going to come true, my teammate was gone.

I had nowhere else to turn but to God and it didn’t take Him long to begin to unfold His Plans for my life. I know this may seem harsh on God’s part, but I was never angry with God and I never asked Him why this happened. Somehow, deep down inside, I knew God had a Plan and I had to trust Him however hard it may be.

God promises to never leave us nor forsake us. We can trust in this Promise. When we find ourselves knocked to the ground, flat on our faces, that’s when God will reach down and pick us up. He has a Plan for each of us and as long as we are alive and breathing, His Plan is not complete. Place your full faith and trust in Him being confident of the very thing, that He who has began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6)

You may be down and out, knocked to the ground, flat on your face but look up! Take Jesus by the hand and trust Him. Ask of Him what Saul asked. Lord, what would you have me to do?

He wants to…...….turn the tide……….in your life.

I’m not letting go of His Hand,         Doreen
