Ezekiel 8:10 So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall round about.
To this point in Ezekiel 8, we have learned that God drug Ezekiel by the hair of his head to see a vision. There, he saw the image of jealousy blocking the Brazen Altar, the place of Sacrifice; the symbol for Christ Crucified.
From there, God took Ezekiel to a wall that covered the Door (Jesus). In the wall was a small hole and God instructed him to dig through the wall and find the Door. Ezekiel did this.
The Lord then instructed Ezekiel to go in through the Door and find the abominations inside. This brings us to verse 10. So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall round about.
What Ezekiel found was appalling! On the Temple walls were carvings of all sorts of creeping animals (snakes and reptiles which symbolize Satan) abominable beasts (more pictures of Satan) and all the idols of the house of Israel, which symbolized the breaking of the First Commandment, Thou shall have no other gods before Me.
Not only were the people doing ungodly things in the Temple, they had carved images of these things on the walls. Unlike pictures being hung on the walls which can be taken down and changed, carvings are permanent. The only way to destroy a carving is to completely cover it with a new material.
When the Word of God speaks of the “Temple” He is referring to the Body of Christ, the local church, and every individual believer, as we are the Temple of God. (1 Corinthians 3:16) This causes me to think about tattoos and how prominent they are today, even among Christians. People are having their entire bodies tattooed with horrible, demonic pictures. Like carvings on walls, tattoos are permanent impressions on our bodies. The tattoo artist penetrates through twelve layers of skin and injects the dye creating the desired picture.
I have a preacher friend in California who had many evil tattoos engraved on his body prior to his Salvation. Soon after he was saved, the Lord called him to preach. There he was, called by God to preach the Gospel, but his body was covered in evil pictures. What was he to do? He was a changed man on the inside, but the outside was still a portrayal of evil.
He went back to the tattoo artist and had every tattoo redone to be a picture of the Gospel of Christ and Him Crucified. Each tattoo had to be covered with something new. While he was here for a visit, he showed us the changes in his tattoos. It was amazing! The Blood of Jesus made such a change in him, he had to go back and endure the pain again to change what was literally on the walls of the Temple of God for all to see.
Only the Blood of Jesus can wash away the old and make us a new creature. We no longer look the same, talk the same, or act the same. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17) Amazing Grace!
What’s on the walls of your Temple? What do people see when they look at you? What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus!
The Blood of Jesus will……..turn the tide
Grateful for the Blood of Jesus, Doreen
