Test Every Spirit

1 John 4:5-6 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the Spirit of Truth and the spirit of error.

In our quest to discover God’s Pattern for His Church, our study brings us to the Letters written to the seven Churches found in the Book of Revelation.

Each of the seven Churches addressed, describes the modern Church. While there are those who hold fast to their faith in the shed Blood of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary, even unto death, there are those who are actually working for and with, Satan. This may not seem possible, but it is and we must use the Gift of Discernment of Spirits to sort them out.

John the Apostle, was used by the Holy Spirit to write a lot that is included in the Canon of Scripture. He wrote the Gospel of John, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and the Book of Revelation, all of which were totally inspired by the Holy Spirit of God.

In the 4th Chapter of 1 John, he begins by instructing us to test every spirit to determine if it is from God or from the world. In other words, we need to make the determination if the spirit before us is Good or evil.

In my opinion, this is the most important and powerful Spiritual Gift because if we can discern the spirit that is operating, we can respond correctly and we will not be influenced by or succumb to, any demonic spirit.

Do not be deceived, my friends. Just because someone is faithful to attend church every week and serves on several committees, does not mean they are saved and serving our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The Word of God tells us what to expect in these latter days. The Apostle Paul wrote to young Timothy about all this to teach him. We would be well advised to heed this same teaching. Now the Spirit expressly says that in the latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. (1 Timothy 4:1)

We are living in the last of the Last Days. This is what Paul called “the latter times.” Indeed many have departed from the faith and are serving deceiving spirits and false doctrines. Pray for the Lord God to Bless you with a double portion of discernment so you can test every spirit and respond accordingly. In these days, we must have this Gift.

Discern every spirit because God is about to……….turn the tide
