The Greatest Promise

Acts 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

When word had gotten back to Jerusalem that Philip had reached the people of Samaria with the Gospel of Christ and many were saved, Peter and John went there to preach the Doctrine of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

While many discount this Doctrine today, when we read the Word of God, we learn it is true. Now when the Apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the Word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. (Acts 8:14-17)

We know that the moment we are Saved and Born again the Holy Spirit dwells within us to guide and teach us. However, contrary to common belief, this is not the same thing as the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit of God is the Power of God to do great and mighty Miracles. When a person is Baptized or Filled with the Holy Spirit, they will then have the Power of God within them to better serve in the Kingdom of God. This is the Promise Jesus spoke to His followers about in Acts 1:4. And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, which, He said You have heard from Me.

We know that when the man, Christ Jesus, was Baptized the Holy Spirit came upon Him. THEN, He began His Ministry of Miracles, Signs, and Wonders. We know that Jesus was 100% God and 100% human at the same time. He came to earth as a man and He ministered Salvation, Healing, and Deliverance as a man empowered by the Holy Spirit of God.

If Jesus needed the Holy Spirit, how much more must we? Jesus tells us to pray to our Heavenly Father and ask for the Holy Spirit. Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him! (Luke 11:12-13)

Anyone who is truly saved and born again through faith in the Finished Work of the Lord Jesus Christ, should be praying for God to Baptize them with the Holy Spirit. Our Heavenly Father wants us to have it all and all we have to do is ask for it. Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8)

The Holy Spirit is the Power of God to……….turn the tide

Thank you Lord for this Promise!         Doreen
