The Old Man

2 Corinthians 6:17 Therefore come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord, Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.

Some of the most important people spoken about in the New Testament do not have names. Two such people are those called the old man and the new man. A great deal of the New Testament is written about these two people and yet, they were not given names.

To understand all that God has for us, we must understand the nature of the old man and the nature of the new man. We will first study and discuss the nature of the old man. The Apostle Paul wrote a lot about him.

This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true Righteousness and Holiness. (Ephesians 4:17-24)

This Passage of Scripture describes the old man who is rebellious toward God. He lives his own life doing his own thing which is evil. The old man only goes into more and more sin and as the old song goes, “sin will take you farther than you ever wanted to go.”

We must understand that Paul is writing to people who profess to be Christians. The problem is, they are still living like the old man. Unfortunately, I believe that there are many Christians in this condition today.

Those people who are truly Saved and born again will not live like the old man. In Verses 22-24, he spells it out clearly. (Ephesians 4:22-24)

The Holy Spirit will convict us of those areas of our lives that we are still living the life of the old man. As born-again believers we want to live our lives pleasing to God. To do this, the old man in us must die so the new man can rise up. This is the Work of the Holy Spirit of God in every believer. Allow Him to do His Work and you will see the new man emerge within yourself. Hallelujah!

The Holy Spirit of God wants to………..turn the tide ……….in your life!

Hallelujah!         Doreen
