1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
The following were the last Words of the Prophet David quoted by Peter in his sermon on the Day of Pentecost. the Lord said unto my Lord, you sit on my Right hand, til I make Your foes Your footstool. (Acts 2:34-35) The people in attendance knew these Words well. Many of them had committed them to memory but had no idea what they meant.
We know that David was saying that the Lord God Almighty; the Heavenly Father, spoke to the Lord Jesus Christ and told Him to sit at His Right Hand and remain there until He makes Satan and all his demonic spirits and demons His footstool.
When Jesus went to the Cross He completed His earthly assignment. His Purpose in living on Earth was to become the final sin Sacrifice for mankind. When He said, It is finished. (John 19:30) His Work was complete. He had done what He was sent to do.
John wrote: For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. (1 John 3:8) The works of the devil are to cause sin to rule and reign in the hearts and lives of people thus separating us from God. Satan hates God and works to see us separated from Him. He does this by infiltrating our minds with demonic thoughts. This is the spiritual warfare we face every day.
The Apostle Paul wrote: Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:15) Jesus destroyed the WORKS and the POWER of the devil in the lives of believers, but He did not totally destroy him.
Satan and his demonic spirits are still very much alive and at work to attack and distract us. Peter reminds us and warns us of this with these words: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)
One day Satan will be totally destroyed but for now, we must be on constant guard against his attack. We have the Power of God through the spoken Name of Jesus to defeat him every day. The Power of the Holy Spirit is a thousand times greater than the power of the devil. We have been given that Power! John wrote: Greater is He Who is in you than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4)
If you believe this, rise up in your faith in Christ Crucified and speak the Name of Jesus with authority! Therein lies the Power of God to defeat the enemy.
Therein lies the Power of God to……….turn the tide
Get under my feet, Satan! Doreen
