Matthew 22:40 On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.
While Jesus fulfilled every ritual, ceremonial and sacrificial law of the Old Testament, the Moral Law of God was carried on into the New Covenant. Moral Law is Moral Law and it does, nor will it ever, change. We find this in the Two Commandments Jesus put forth in Matthew 22:37-40. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great Commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. Anyone who teaches otherwise should quickly be deemed a false teacher and avoided at all cost.
As we study the Book of Acts we will discover a pattern established by Jesus for His Church. Luke presented Him as the Foundation, Principle, and Standard for absolutely everything in our lives, including the Church.
The Book of Acts is to be the pattern for the Church today. Although some things may be different due to technology and other aspects of life, the heart of the Church today should be like that of the First Church portrayed in the Book of Acts. Remember Luke’s opening statement concerning the Purpose of the Church. It is to be a continuation of all that Jesus began both to do and teach.
Unfortunately, most Churches today have no similarities to the First Church found in the Book of Acts. As we have stated so many times here on this platform, most churches today are nothing more than social clubs where friends gather together on a regular basis and perhaps do a few good deeds in their community. This is not the pattern set forth for the Church.
Jesus did not run a social club. He did not gather people together to play games and have parties. Jesus touched people by the Power of the Holy Spirit and brought about change in their lives for the better. The Holy Spirit is the same today as He was then. He is STILL the Power of God to change people and folks still come to Church for help, but unfortunately, few receive any.
Jesus began the Work and we are to continue that same work. He said, Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the Works that I do he will do also; and greater Works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. (John 14:12) Jesus wasn’t kidding when He said this and we read of such things in the First Church in the Book of Acts.
So, why don’t we see great Miracles done today? Why aren’t people healed and delivered from demonic spirits today? This will be our topic of conversation for the next several days and I pray it will encourage you to step out in the Power of the Holy Spirit and bring change in you and to your Church.
The Power still remains to……….turn the tide
