Micah 5:2 But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall He come forth unto Me Who is to be Ruler in Israel; Whose goings forth have been from old, from everlasting.
Prophecies of the coming Messiah can be found throughout the Word of God. From the Words of Jacob in the 49th Chapter of Genesis to the Prophecy of Micah.
The Prophet Micah was given a tremendous Prophecy: that of the Birthplace of the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ. It is recorded that the Holy Spirit imparted these Words to Micah (and he spoke these Words) in the year 710 BC. But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall He come forth unto Me Who is to be Ruler in Israel; Whose goings forth have been from old, from everlasting. (Micah 5:2)
In Old Testament times, the people did not have copies of the Bible like we do today. They had only the ancient Scrolls of the Torah which is the First Five Books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
God spoke through His Prophets and their Words of Prophecy were written down on Scrolls and used by the Rabbis for teaching. Jesus used such a Scroll the day He stood in the Synagogue and spoke of His Ministry. So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the Synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. And He was handed the Book of the Prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the Book, He found the place where it was written: The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. Then He closed the Book and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:16-21)
The Great Prophet, Isaiah, received from the Holy Spirit the Prophecy of the Coming Messiah. The people heard the Prophecy and it was recorded in the Scrolls but when the Prophecy came to pass, few believed. Let us praise God for the lowly Shepherds who believed.
Yes, it happened exactly as God had given it to the Prophets of Old. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His Name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14) As we continue to read the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, we come to this: For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His Name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
