Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, Will of God.
Sin affects the entire person. Spirit, soul, and body are all affected when we sin. When Adam first sinned all three parts of him were changed. His spirit was cut off from God. His sin separated him from God which is spiritual death. His soul was changed in that he thought about things differently and he felt emotions he had never felt before. His body was affected in that he felt pain. He became sick and diseased and his body aged and ultimately died. The wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23)
For the past couple of days, we have been discussing how sin affects the soul of a person. We know that the soul is the very center of a human being. It is the mind, will, and emotions of the person. Our soul and our mind cannot be separated. Solomon, the wisest man to ever, live wrote. What a person thinks in his heart, so is he. (Proverbs 23:7) Our thoughts determine who we are and what we do.
When Adam was created, Jesus breathed the breath of life into him and he became a living soul. And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7)
It is important to remember that when we hear the Gospel of Christ preached and we believe in our heart that it is true, it is our soul that is Saved and born again. God does not save our spirit or our body, He saves our soul and this is what causes us to become a new creation IN Christ. Prior to this, we are a lost soul destined for eternity in Hell.
The Apostle Paul wrote a lot about being a new creation which is a total transformation of the soul. To undergo this transformation, our soul must be saved. This takes place in our heart and then our mind changes. We see things differently. We have different thoughts. We don’t want to do what we used to do. We talk differently. When our soul is saved, we are a new creation in Christ and as we seek the Lord more and more, our mind will become transformed.
And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, Will of God. (Romans 12:2) It is the Will of God that our souls be saved and our minds be renewed and transformed. Jesus went to the Cross of Calvary to make this possible for everyone. That is the Good News! Hallelujah!
