Acts 1:1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach.

The writer of the Book of Acts was Luke, who was a formally educated man and a physician. Here in the first Verse of this Book we find Luke telling us that he also wrote the Gospel of Luke. The word “treatise” is not commonly used today but it means a written paper on a specific subject.

In this case, Luke was inspired by the Holy Spirit to write the Gospel of Luke which is a written expression of his knowledge and remembrance in regard to the Birth, Life, Ministry, Crucifixion, Burial, Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus Christ.

God has always used people to bring credence to Himself. These people represent all walks of life from the poorest of the poor and uneducated to those of high standing and great social and economic position. Due to their ability to write, at times God revealed Himself through highly educated and reputable people. Luke is one such person.

Being educated as a physician, Luke knew all about medicine and the medical practices of that time which consisted mostly of herbs and natural healing remedies. He also knew about the human body. Therefore, Luke understood what was possible in the natural realm and he also knew a Miracle when he saw one. Personally, I believe this is why God called upon him to write both the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts.

Luke appears to be writing the Book of Acts to someone named Theophilus. Who was Theophilus? This was a common Roman name at that time and means “dear to God.” Therefore, Luke addressed this Book to anyone who is dear to God. Today we might use the term “saints of God” or “believers.”

The Book of Acts contains so many Miracles that Luke felt it necessary to remind the reader that it was he who wrote the Gospel of Christ according to Luke. He is that same Luke; the same person who witnessed so many amazing things during the Life and Ministry of Jesus and he would now write of the Ministry of the Holy Spirit in the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus told us that when He left to go be with the Father, He would send the Holy Spirit. Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. (John 16:7) He did that. Jesus went away and the Holy Spirit came. He is Ministering today in the lives of all those who will believe. I pray you are included in that group.

The Power of the Holy Spirit will……….turn the tide
