Worth It All

Romans 8:2 For the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the Law of sin and death.

The believers in the Church of the First Century looked and acted so different from the Jews at the Synagogue, there was no denying that something had happened to them. Their behavior attracted other Jews to Jesus. These people were happy, filled with Joy and Peace even though they had been excommunicated from the Synagogue, the Jewish society, and everything they had ever known. In many cases, they lost their families who considered them now to be dead. This is why they were called peculiar. How can someone lose everything and be so happy?

The fact is, although they lost everything the world had to offer them, they gained total freedom through their faith in the Finished Work of Christ on the Cross. Their old life under the Law was nothing but condemnation and bondage to a list of rules they could not keep. No matter how hard they tried, they failed. But, all that was now gone and they knew the meaning of true liberty and freedom through Jesus Christ.

The great Apostle Paul wrote about this in his letter to the Romans. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the Law of sin and death. For what the Law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His Own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:1-4)

For centuries God’s people had lived under the Law which only led to death. Millions of little lambs and other animals were sacrificed on the Altar at the Temple but the people were still dying inside. All the animal blood in the world could not free them from the sin and shame they felt inside.

For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. (Hebrews 10:4) The blood of all the animals only covered their sins. All the pomp and ceremonial rituals performed by the Priests did nothing for the people except hold them in low esteem.

However, the Blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary TOOK AWAY their sins. He raised them up to be sons of God. They were no longer just lowly peasants working to keep the Law. They may have lost everything in the flesh, but they gained it all in the Spiritual!

This is what God still wants for people today. He wants us to be set free from the bondage of sin and shame in our lives. He sent His Son to die on the Cross of Calvary so we can know this Freedom. We too may lose everything we have in the natural but to know the Joy and Peace of the Lord is worth it all.

Jesus died to….….turn the tide ……….in your life.

Freedom is worth it all,          Doreen
