Proverbs 19:19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if you deliver him, yet you must do it again.
Much of our society in America has an entitlement mentality. These people believe they are entitled to everything they want simply because they exist. Much of this is due to the way they were raised. For whatever reason, their parents didn’t make them work and earn their own way. Instead, they gave them everything they asked for and now wonder why they have adult children living in their home, still dependent upon them. This is called enabling, and it is frowned upon by God and His Word.
The wisest man to ever live, Solomon, wrote on this subject in his Book of Proverbs. A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if you deliver him, yet you must do it again. All actions bring on consequences. Rather, righteous deeds or sinful acts, they all have consequences. Everyone reaps what they sow. A person who chooses to be disobedient and sin against God will suffer punishment. A parent who enables their child in sin will also suffer the consequences.
Aside from accepting Christ and living for Him, one of the greatest things we can teach our children is to be independent; to work hard and earn their own way. Any parent who enables their child is doing them a horrible disservice. If everything is given to them, they will develop an entitlement mentality and expect others to work and provide for them their entire life.
This Biblical Principle is true in families, businesses, Church fellowships, and in society as a whole. People who believe the Government owes them everything are among those in this category as well. It is the government’s responsibility to protect the people, not provide for them. This mindset is what has resulted in America being in 20 trillion dollars of debt. It simply does not work because it is not God’s Way.
For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. (2 Thessalonians 3:10) People who are enabled never develop a work ethic. This mentality is extremely destructive to a family, business, church fellowship or society.
Much of America is currently in a state of dependency on the government. Statistics show that 37% of Americans are on some sort of governmental public assistance. Allow me to make it clear that Social Security is NOT public assistance. Older people receiving Social Security have paid into that program for decades. They are simply getting back a portion of what they deposited during their years of employment.
The free market system upon which America was founded is a Biblical Principle. Everyone has the opportunity to work hard and succeed. We know it as Capitalism, and it is by this Biblical form of government that America has grown and prospered. God has blessed America because we established our government by the Principles of His Word.
I believe we are beginning to see America return to our roots of Capitalism. We must get back to being a society of people with a strong work ethic who, by trusting in God through His Son, Jesus Christ, we will once again be the greatest nation on earth and the leader of the free world! Hallelujah!
Only God can........turn the tide
Going to work, Doreen
