Hebrews 4:1 Therefore, since a Promise remains of entering His Rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.
Yesterday we discussed the fact that Jesus did not address the 4th Commandment when He gave us the Two Commandments of the New Covenant. This is because when He went to the Cross, all the Work pertaining to atoning for sin, was complete. When He said, It is finished. (John 19:30) the Work was complete! Every sin had been atoned for and there was no longer any need to work to be in right standing with God the Father.
Jesus is God’s Promise of Rest for this world. Sin separates us from God. Try as we may to gain Righteousness in the eyes of God, we cannot do it. This was the work of the people in Old Testament times but they were unable to accomplish it.
Jesus did what no man could do. He paid the price with His Precious, Perfect Blood on the Cross of Calvary. This is what God required and Jesus accomplished it. He did this for us so we could be Saved and set free from the burden and bondage of sin in our lives. This Freedom in Christ results in our ability to have Peace and Rest.
This is God’s Promise to humanity. This is God’s Promise to YOU! We read all about this in the 4th Chapter of the Book of Hebrews. I find it interesting that the 4th Commandment is replaced by the 4th Chapter in the Book of Hebrews. It reads Therefore, since a Promise remains of entering His Rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the Gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the Word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: “So I swore in My wrath, they shall not enter My Rest.” Although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works,” and again in this place: “They shall not enter My Rest.” Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said: “Today, if you will hear His Voice, do not harden your hearts.” For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. There remains therefore a Rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His Rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. (Hebrews 4:1-10)
We can enter into His Rest through faith in His Finished Work on the Cross of Calvary. It was there that He accomplished all the Work required by God the Father. If you believe that, then you can know the Peace and enter into His Rest constantly every day. Believe and Rest.
Faith in His Finished Work will……….turn the tide
