Luke 7:41-42 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
Jesus spoke this Parable in the home of the Pharisee, where the sinful woman entered and poured out her life savings and her heart at His Feet. Weeping, she washed Jesus' Feet with her tears and wiped them dry with the hair of her head. She broke her alabaster box and used the oil she had saved for years to anoint His Feet.
She had broken every law the Pharisees had put in place, and yet, Jesus still welcomed her into His Presence. Broken and spilled out, in every sense of the word, she fell at His Feet in total surrender and repentance.
The Pharisees were astonished by her boldness, and the Pharisee who owned the house said to himself, This Man, if He were a Prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is who touches Him: for she is a sinner. (Verse 39)
The Pharisee was right. The woman was a filthy, dreadful sinner, BUT through a simple Parable, Jesus taught them all a great lesson. He said, There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And He said unto him, You have rightly judged. Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.” (Verses 41-47)
The woman also heard Jesus' Parable. After speaking to the Pharisees, Jesus turned to the woman and said, “Your sins are forgiven.” With that, the Pharisees quietly spoke among themselves, saying, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” Then Jesus spoke to the woman and said, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”
Forgiven and set free by the Grace of Jesus! This is the testimony of every born-again believer in Jesus Christ.
On this Thanksgiving Day, let us each remember back to what the Lord has forgiven and delivered us from. Let us give Him thanks for allowing us to come, broken and spilled out at His Feet in full surrender and repentance, and for His Grace and Mercy to forgive us, just as He did this woman so many years ago.
As the song goes, His love never fails; it never gives up; it never runs out on me. For this, we find ourselves broken and spilled out in thanks; not just on Thanksgiving Day, but every day, until He calls us home.
The Love of God will........turn the tide
So thankful! Doreen
