Acts 4:1 And as they spoke unto the people, the Priests, and the captain of the Temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them, being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day for it was now evening.
The Priests and Sadducees had heard enough from Peter and John, and they put a stop to their preaching by arresting them and putting them in jail. Their crime: The content of their speech.
Today is Independence Day in America. Today, we celebrate the freedom we enjoy as Americans, and freedom of speech is at the top of the list. There was no freedom of speech in biblical times. We read in the 4th Chapter of Acts where Peter and John were jailed because of the content of their speech.
Our Founding Fathers never wanted this to happen in America, and this example in the Book of Acts is part of the basis for their decision to make freedom of speech a reality and a right in America.
Today, some are trying to take that freedom away, but we must stand strong on our Bill of Rights, which gives us the right to assemble and speak.
As you celebrate the 4th of July today with your family and friends, remember what our Founding Fathers fought and died for. Freedom! Your freedom. My freedom. The freedom of every American.
There is no country like America. It is the greatest country on earth. It will remain so if we stand for our rights as Americans and do not let the enemy rob us of them.
True freedom, in every sense of the word, comes only through Christ. He gave His Perfect Life on the Cross that we may be set free from the bondage of sin and not spend eternity in the pit of Hell, bound in chains, surrounded by fire, weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
Choose Freedom! Choose Christ! May God bless America!
