Christians And Alcohol

Habakkuk 2:15 Woe unto him who gives his neighbor drink, who puts your bottle to him, and makes him drunk also, that you may look on their nakedness.

Alcohol is dangerous, and the Lord warns against its use many times over in the Bible. This verse speaks to the one who gives another person alcohol or tempts them with it.  Personally, I believe this speaks to any and all mind-altering substances, including marijuana or any other drug.

A person who is under the influence of a mind-altering substance is vulnerable and uninhibited. They do and say things that they wouldn’t do if they were in a sober condition. This is extremely dangerous and destructive not only to the person affected but also to their family and friends.

Nothing good comes from the use of alcohol or drugs. All we need to do is look at the statistics to discover the pain and suffering caused by these substances. Today, we have a tremendous number of people whose lives have been destroyed by this.

Anything that alters the mind is of the enemy and should be deemed ungodly. One of Satan’s strongest demons is the spirit of addiction, and it will absolutely rob a person of their faith, destroy their life, and, left untreated, it will eventually kill them.

This also includes addictive prescription drugs. It doesn’t matter if a doctor prescribes it or not. If it is used improperly, the enemy will use it to suck the life out of an individual as they become not only dependent on the drug but addicted to it. Dependent means to need it. Addicted means you will die without it. In either case, the enemy, by use of a substance, has robbed the user of their freedom.

To encourage a person to take a drink of alcohol, smoke a marijuana cigarette, or use any addictive substance is an offense to God. The great Apostle Paul wrote on this subject. A good example is Romans 14:21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.

An altered state of mind weakens a person and destroys brain cells. The Lord God Almighty created us with a complex brain that has the capacity far greater than the largest computer. The human brain is a magnificent creation, and we have to right to alter it in any way. To do so is sin.

Peter wrote of this danger in 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.  Take heed. Be careful. Guard yourself and those to whom you have been charged or influenced. Do not put yourself in a weakened state, and DO NOT cause anyone to stumble by encouraging or allowing them to use a mind-altering substance. For the Lord says, Woe unto him who gives his neighbor drink, who puts your bottle to him, and makes him drunk also, that you may look on their nakedness.

Forgive me Lord, where I have caused another in any way to stumble. Grant me the gift of repentance and set me free from this heavy burden. Thank you Lord, for your mercy and Grace by which I have been gorgiven and set free. Amen.

The Lord God Almighty will…………turn the tide

Thank you Lord,      Doreen
