Christlike Integrity

Genesis 39:6-9  Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.” But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

Joseph was extremely handsome and Potiphar’s wife, unable to control herself, made advances toward him.  Joseph was tempted, but he stood strong against the temptation. His resistance to the advances of Potiphar’s wife was an indication of his right to be the “firstborn” son of Jacob.

One commentary I read said that Joseph had three reasons to resist the temptation.

1. Gratitude to his master who had entrusted him with everything he owned.
2.
Respect for the woman, knowing she was the master’s wife.
3.
Fear of God.

This is a description of integrity which is a characteristic that will prevail in our lives when we remain focused on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

When we take our eyes off Jesus and the Cross of Calvary, we will succumb to the temptation of the enemy. Jesus is our Rock and strength in all situations. He gave His Life so sin would not have dominion over us. When we fully understand this, integrity will prevail in our lives.

Gratitude for our Master and His Sacrifice on the Cross.

Respect for all people, no matter their status in life.

Fear of God, knowing ALL sin is against Him, not others.

Joseph displayed impeccable integrity just as Jesus did when He was tempted by the devil in the wilderness. He never faltered. True integrity is something we should all strive to possess and the only way to obtain it is to keep our eyes squarely focused on Jesus and His Sacrifice on the Cross, and our faith firmly planted in Him.

When we do this we will be counted among those who God spoke about in 2 Chronicles 7:14: If my people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My Face and turn from their wicked ways, THEN will I hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

God seeks integrity in His people. Gratitude, respect, and fear of God.

Then, He will……..turn the tide
