Compassion

Mark 5:18-20 And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him.  However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.”  And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled.

After Jesus commanded the legion of demons out of the man who lived in the caves of the mountains and totally delivered the demoniac, the man wanted to stay with Jesus and go everywhere with Him. Who wouldn't?

But Jesus did not permit him to travel with Him. Rather, Jesus told the man to go home and tell all his friends what the Lord had done for him, and especially of His compassion for him. “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.”

As the year 2016 comes to a close, let us consider all that the Lord has done this year. God has displayed great compassion for us. He operates in Compassion, Mercy, and Grace. Everything the Lord does for us is out of His Compassion for us. Compassion, Mercy, and Grace are all by-products of God's Love for us.

We are the sheep of God's flock. We follow each other out of the fold at times and make stupid mistakes. God allows us to wander off, but then, out of His great Compassion and Love for us, He rescues us and brings us back. Sometimes He has to break our legs and carry us on His Shoulders until we are spiritually strong enough to walk on our own. He does all this out of His great Compassion for each one of us.

Compassion is defined as: a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune; one who is sick, hungry, in trouble, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.

God's Love for each of us is the source of His Compassion on us. He has a strong desire to alleviate our suffering, and He does so when we humble ourselves and go to Him in sincere repentance, seeking Him with all our heart.

God sees your hurt. He knows your pain. He wants to heal your pain and deliver you from whatever is binding you. His Compassion is great. His ability is beyond our imagination. Consider what He has done already in your life! Whom have you told? Your testimony of the Love, Compassion, Mercy, and Grace of God to you will boost your faith in yourself and all who hear it.

When the delivered demoniac returned home and told what the Lord had done out of His great Compassion for him, the Bible says, they all marveled. Your friends and family will marvel at your testimony as well. Whom have you told? Who knows what the Lord has done in your life? Personal testimonies are one of the most powerful tools the Lord uses to draw people to Himself.

Jesus' command to the delivered demoniac still stands for all of us today. He said, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.”

The Compassion of God will........turn the tide
