Galatians 5:19-20 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions........
As the Apostle Paul continues with the list of the works of the flesh, the next is contentions, which is arguments and disagreements. The Word of God tells us to avoid contention at all costs because it causes division in the Body of Christ. But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless. (Titus 3:9)
If Satan can convince believers to argue among themselves, he is driving a wedge between them, which is unprofitable and useless. Actually, it is extremely damaging to the Church. How many times have we seen a church congregation split over a foolish argument? When asked about it years later, many times the people involved can’t even remember what it was about. This is the work of the enemy to divide and conquer the Body of Christ.
Some people are stricken with an argumentative nature. They will argue about anything just to argue. These people are in rebellion against the Word of God and can be destructive to the Kingdom.
It does no good to argue doctrine or law with anyone. We will never cause a person to change their mind. The Holy Spirit of God is the one who will change the mind of an individual. He is the Teacher, Counselor, and Guide. When we argue with these people, we are climbing through the fence of the Pasture of Plenty out into the world and entering into the works of the flesh with them.
Our responsibility is to pray for these people and ask the Holy Spirit to guide them into all Truth. He will do this. We will never guide them anywhere except farther outside the fence of the Pasture of Plenty and into the cold, dark world.
Beware! When a believer wants to engage you in an argument, simply refer them to the Word of God and pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal to them the Truth and nothing but the Truth. Jesus declared, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father but by Me. (John 14:6) The Truth sets people free!
The Truth will..........turn the tide..........in your life.
Praying, Doreen
