Luke 20:17 And He beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The Stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the Cornerstone?

Many have rejected Christ, including the Jews, God’s chosen people. God sent Jesus for all the world, but especially for His people, that they may know the Ultimate Sacrifice and be saved. The Jewish people are the "builders" who rejected Christ, but He went on to become the Cornerstone of the Church in spite of their rejection.

In this Passage of Scripture, Jesus is comparing His Church to a building made of stones. When building a structure of stones, each stone is carefully selected for that particular place. The most important stone is the cornerstone upon which all the other stones find their foundation. This stone has to be perfect and solid, or the structure will collapse under pressure and crumble to the ground, leaving nothing but a heap of rubble and broken pieces.

God sent Jesus to be the Cornerstone of His Church; the Solid Rock upon which everything would stand firm. All the other stones have imperfections. Some may be large and appear strong, but inside, they are imperfect and cracked. Without a foundation to rest upon, they will eventually crumble.

When building the fireplace at The Treehouse, I went to the rock yard and purchased several pallets of rock. They were all different sizes, shapes, and colors. The first thing we did was unload all the stones and lay them out on the floor so we could see each one for its beauty and determine its place in the structure.

Starting at the bottom, we poured a foundation of concrete for the rocks to set on. The cornerstones were the first stones to be selected and set in place. It would be on these stones that the rest of the stones would find their strength to stand.

The stones are not just piled up one on top of the other; they are glued together with a product called mortar. This is a fine cement mixture formulated especially for masonry work. As each stone is selected for its place, mortar is applied to the stone and it is set.  With every stone, the structure grows, and the different shapes and colors add to the interest of the finished product.

Jesus declared Himself to be the Cornerstone upon which He would build His Church. Every believer is a stone and has a place. The Blood of Christ is the Mortar that holds the whole thing together. Without the Blood of Jesus, the building will not stand.

Many denominations today have eliminated any mention of the Blood of Christ from their services. People don’t want to hear about sin and blood, so it is a subject that is avoided by many. These buildings will not stand for long. When a strong storm comes or an earthquake shakes the house, a structure of stones without Mortar will fall down, and the stones will each roll away and once again stand alone.

A single stone does not make a house. A pile of stones does not make a house. Only a structure built on the firm foundation of the Cornerstone, with each and every stone covered by Mortar, will stand as a strong house. This is how God intends for His Church to be built.

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, covered by the Blood of Jesus.

The Blood of Jesus will……..turn the tide
