James 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
Yesterday, we began a discussion about Abram. God told him to leave his hometown of Ur of Chaldes. Abram didn’t know where God was taking him, but he packed up and left his home. Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land I will show thee. (Genesis 12:1)
There is both a natural and a spiritual concept to learn here. Abram left Ur of Chaldes. This is the natural concept but spiritually speaking, Abram longed to be closer to God and his obedience to God’s Voice brought him much closer to the Lord.
Abram made the decision to leave his family and his father’s house where he had lived his whole life. This was his home; his comfort zone. He started out on a journey with no destination except to be closer to God. Oh my, what a lesson to be learned here!
Abram had to be still and listen to God in order to hear God’s instructions. He drew near to God and THEN God drew near to him. James, the half-brother of Jesus, wrote this same thing in his Epistle. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (James 4:8)
God has a Plan for each of us and if we long to be closer to Him, He will require us to move from our comfort zone. It may or may not be a move in the naturally from one city to another or change jobs. However, He will require us to move in the spirit realm which will take us out of our comfort zone.
Where is God telling you to go? What is God telling you to do? If you don’t know, draw closer to God. Be still and listen. (Psalms 46:10) You will hear that still, small Voice of the Lord and He will give you instructions. Are you willing to hear from God and be obedient? This is all He will ever ask of us.
Draw near to God and He will……….turn the tide……..in your life!
Drawing nearer every day. Doreen
