Habakkuk 1:6-11 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwelling places that are not theirs. They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves. Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hastes to eat. They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand. And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it. Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god.
The Book of Habakkuk was written in approximately 626 B.C. Habakkuk was a Prophet, but he was different from the other Prophets we read about in the Old Testament. He could not understand how God would allow injustice and oppression to prevail among God’s people.
Day after day, for a very long time, he poured his heart out to God in prayer over this. He absolutely believed God was able to change the situation, and yet, He wasn’t doing anything. In fact, as we read on, we see where God raised up the wicked and describes these people in detail in Verses 6-11. Habakkuk had a very hard time understanding this and said so.
Throughout history, God’s people have endured attack after attack from evil people, beginning with the Babylonians. Then it was the Medes, followed by the Persians, Greeks, Romans, Barbarians, Turks, Arabs, Spanish, and the Germans. Today, God’s people are enduring the attack of the Nation of Islam, and the attack will not end until the coming of the greatest attack of all time, the Antichrist.
Habakkuk’s Prophesy is the foretelling of the history of attack after attack on the Kingdom of God. As we read the Word of God’s description of these people, it is easy to compare it to those in the Nation of Islam today.
Tomorrow, we will break this down verse by verse. Until then, never doubt that God is in total control. He has always had a Plan for His People. Sometimes that Plan includes suffering. If you are feeling sorry for yourself now, read the Book of Job! God calls His People to endure. He is calling us to endure as we place our full trust and faith in Him. Remember, Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world! Hallelujah!
God is able to.........turn the tide
Greater is He! Doreen
