Examine Your Motives

Revelation 2:13 I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. And you hold fast to My Name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

The Church in Pergamos was located in a bad area. Jesus referred to it as where Satan’s throne is. I suppose it would be like planting a church in a demonic, gang-infested part of town where violence, witchcraft, and satanic worship was prevalent. Or perhaps an Islamic community where everyone was a violent Muslim.

However, even in these circumstances, the majority of the believers in this congregation remained faithful to their belief in Jesus and His Finished Work on the Cross of Calvary. Even when Antipas was martyred by the heathens in their midst, they stood strong in their faith.

In His letter to the Church in Pergamos, Jesus commended them for their faith and perseverance but, He also mentioned some things where they were failing. But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. (Revelation 2:14-15)

Apparently, while the majority of the congregation was faithful, they had some people who were following Satan in their midst. This obviously was not acceptable to God then and I don’t believe it is today.

The Church today is full of people who fall into this category. They use the Church as a means of self gain, power, and position. My friends, God hates this and He will not tolerate it in His Church. As we have said so many times here in the Morning Message, God looks at our motives and judges us based on WHY we do things.

This is a very serious subject and we each need to examine our own heart and ask the Lord to give us pure motives as we go about doing His Work ever keeping in mind that the goal is to build His Kingdom with people who are truly saved, born again, and delivered from the bondage of sin.

Once again, I am reminded of these Words of Jesus Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)

Please consider your motives because God will soon……….turn the tide
