Faithful Until Death

Revelation 2:10 Be faithful until death, and I will give you a Crown of Life.

In Jesus’ Letter to the Church in Smyrna, we find a beautiful Promise. Jesus said, Be faithful until death, and I will give you a Crown of Life. As with so many Promises of God, this one comes with a condition. The condition is clear and to the point, Be faithful until death. There is no room for misunderstanding this statement.

God knows we are all born with the sin nature and we will at times fall to the temptation of Satan. He knows we are not perfect and we cannot be perfect. Otherwise, the condition for this Promise may read: be perfect until death. He did not say that. He said Be FAITHFUL until death.

This means that through trial, tribulation, and torture, we must never lose faith in the shed Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary. That is the faith we had the moment we were saved and born again and that is the same faith that will see us through every test in this life. It is that same faith that will be rewarded with a Crown of Life.

What is a Crown of Life? To properly understand this we must look at Greek grammar which can be confusing, to say the least. However, in this case, it’s not too difficult. In this case, the word “crown” does not mean a literal crown that one wears on their head. Rather it means to be rewarded with something. In this case, the reward is “life” which refers to Eternal Life. Therefore, in simple terms, “crown of life” actually means “the crown that is life.”

So, with that understanding, we find that Eternal Life is the reward for remaining faithful until death. Actually, this is what Jesus said in John 3:16: That whosoever believes in Me shall not perish but have Everlasting Life. The meaning here is whoever CONTINUES TO BELIEVE in Jesus shall not perish but have Everlasting Life.

True Salvation is not about a one-time confession that we believe in Jesus. It is a lifestyle of believing in His Finished Work on the Cross of Calvary. No matter what we face in this life, we must remain faithful until death if we are to receive a Crown of Life which is the reward of Everlasting Life in Heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Stay strong in your faith. God is about to……….turn the tide
