Habakkuk 2:6 Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him who increases that which is not his! How long? And to him that lades himself with thick clay!
As we continue to study the Vision given to Habakkuk, we come to this very interesting Passage of Scripture. It speaks directly to those who increase themselves in unlawful ways, through cheating, bribery, blackmail, and extortion. Some commentaries on this verse speak to living under heavy pledges or being deep in debt.
The question is: How long will this go on? We all know the answer to that question. It has been going on for all of history, and it will continue until the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
In the world today, extortion, blackmail, and bribery are common ways of life and doing business. Not to mention the tremendous indebtedness of individuals and America. Cheating is far more common than conducting business honestly and with integrity. Politicians are bought off and bribed every day. The lobbyists are the most powerful force in Washington, DC. Members of Congress are paid millions of dollars for their votes.
The average American has $12,000 in credit card debt, and this does not include home mortgages, vehicle loans, and school loans. As a nation, America is in debt by almost 38 trillion dollars. I must write it like this because I don't even know how many zeros it takes to write a trillion. We could go on and on about all this, but suffice it to say, Habakkuk 2:6 is alive and well in the world today.
The last part of this verse can be difficult for many to understand. The King James Version says, And to him that lades himself with thick clay! “Thick clay” is representative of quicksand. Anyone who lives their life cheating others and practicing bribery, blackmail, and extortion, and piling up debt, is sinking deeper and deeper into quicksand and will eventually go under. There is no getting out. The only way is down.
Sooner or later, those who conduct their lives in the manner described by Habakkuk in the Vision given him by God will be overtaken. Throughout history, we have seen the oppressed rise up against their oppressors. This is what we are witnessing today in America.
Finally, Americans are waking up to what is happening in the leadership of our nation. Corruption is everywhere, and the debt is a number larger than most people can even comprehend. The people of this nation are nothing but the source of wealth and power for those corrupt individuals at the top who have convinced many that they care about them, but have only made the situation much worse over the past 70 years.
The only answer for America is for her to turn back to God. God cares about the oppressed. He always has, and He always will. We see this plainly spoken in Jeremiah 17:11 As the partridge sits on eggs, and hatches them not; so he who gets riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.
This is a Spiritual Law spoken by God for all of mankind. Anyone who places their trust in wealth is a fool and will sink in quicksand until they are completely out of sight. There they will spend eternity in torment. May God have Mercy on their souls.
Hold on! God is about to……..turn the tide
In prayer, Doreen
