Acts 1:3 To whom also He showed Himself alive after His Passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
Verse Three speaks of the Miracles Jesus performed after His Resurrection and before His Ascension. It is clear (through Scripture) that Jesus appeared to more than 500 people after His Resurrection. We don’t know exactly how many times He appeared to people, but we can account for at least twelve.
Jesus did not merely appear to people after His Resurrection. His appearances resulted in great Miracles. John 21:1-14 is a perfect example and ends with John writing: This is now the third time Jesus showed Himself to His Disciples after He was raised from the dead.
Luke called the Miracles Jesus performed after His Resurrection, infallible proofs. (Acts 1:3) The word “proof” would have been sufficient in this case, but being a physician, Luke added the word “infallible” which means guaranteed and perfect. There was no denying that Jesus appeared after His Resurrection and continued His Ministry during that time which consisted of forty days.
The fact that this was a forty-day time period is significant. The number 40 is God’s number for probation. Moses fasted 40 days and nights, Jesus fasted 40 days and nights, the people wandered in the desert for 40 years, etc.
Therefore, the forty-day period of time spent by Jesus on Earth between His Resurrection and His Ascension puts to rest any and all skepticism and doubts about His Resurrection which was dependent on His Crucifixion. If He had not been Crucified, He would not have been buried and Resurrected. That’s obvious! The Resurrection of Jesus was dependent on His Finished Work on the Cross of Calvary.
Despite some current teaching, everything we receive from God comes to us by way of the Cross of Christ. Jesus’ Virgin Birth, His Perfect Life, all the Miracles He performed, His Burial, Resurrection, and Ascension are all supernatural Works of God but none of them can bring Salvation to anyone. ONLY faith in His Finished Work on the Cross will result in a soul being saved.
Therefore, the Ministry of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ should be solely based on that fact. It is the Blood of Jesus shed on the Cross of Calvary that saves. Everything else comes as a result of His Finished Work on Crucifixion Day.
Faith in the Blood of Christ will……….turn the tide
